Pepco Holdings Inc. regulates energy throughout the mid-Atlantic region of the United States serving 1.9 million costumers. On Wednesday many power outages due to major blizzard conditions, left homes dark throughout the mid-Atlantic region including the United States capital. Low visibility and strong winds kept Pepco’s linemen from repairing the downed power lines, which prolonged energy outages. The Pepco crew have been working 16 hour shifts in hope of returning energy to 200,000 people, but today at 10:00 am energy has been restored to users except for about 2,500. The after effects of the blizzard which include snow-heavy trees and new snow on the ground make repairing the electric lines more difficult for the Pepco staff.
This blizzard is the second biggest the east coast has had occur within less than a week. This has caused cars to stay off the road, people to stay at home, and flights to be delayed; freezing the east coast under the frigid snow storm.
